Vanessa Stalling is a freelance director and the Area Head of Directing at University of California San Diego’s Department of Theatre and Dance. She is the adapter and director of United 232, which was nominated for six Equity Jeff Awards, winning for Best Production and Best Ensemble. She has been honored as a Goodman Theatre Michael Maggio fellow, a Hellman fellow, one of the Fifty People Who Really Perform for Chicago, an honored finalist of the Women in the Arts & Media Coalition Collaboration Award, and recognized by Chicago Jeff and Los Angeles’ Raw Awards. For six years she was a member of The House Theatre of Chicago. She is the former Associate Artistic Director of Chicago’s Redmoon Theatre, where for almost a decade, she acted in and directed dozens of indoor and outdoor performances. Significant Redmoon experiences include directing the remount of The Cabinet for a FILO Festival tour in Brazil, ephemeral performances for President Obama’s 2009 Halloween Celebrations at the White House, and performing in an outdoor spectacle launching the 2008 World Living Statues Festival in the Netherlands. Recent productions include Constellations at American Players Theatre, The Lehman Trilogy, a co-production with Timeline and Broadway in Chicago, Fen at The Court Theatre, Roe at The Goodman Theatre, and The Great Leap at Asolo Rep. Vanessa is also a member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC).
